Prepare the Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Follow the instructions on the German chocolate cake mix and bake in a 9×13-inch sheet pan. Let the cake cool completely.
Make the Topping: In a medium saucepan, combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened (about 10-12 minutes).
Add Coconut & Pecans: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans. Allow the mixture to cool.
Top the Cake: Spread the coconut-pecan topping evenly over the cooled cake.
Optional: Sprinkle chocolate chips on top for an extra chocolatey finish.
